Every year, millions of man-hours are wasted in California by people standing in lines waiting to get a driver’s license renewal or to register and buy tags for a vehicle. This is absolutely nuts.
There is a simple fix. Just do it like Washington State. They have franchised the Washington Department of Licensing, the same idea that made McDonald’s hamburgers successful.
The license stores are in convenient locations, usually in strip malls. They often have little or no wait times to see a clerk. You are in and out in a few minutes, not hours. An additional benefit to the state is much lower cost operation because the franchise is not another government bureaucracy.
The California DMV, contrasted to Washington State, is another example of how the profit motive makes everything better.
