
80, former resident of Santa Barbara CA died February 11, 2013, while at Los Robles Care Center in Ojai CA. He was a veteran of the Korean War as a heavy motorman. He attended Santa Barbara schools. While attending high school he was a member of R.O.T.C. in which he greatly enjoyed. In Richard’s youth, he had a passion for Jalopy car races. He participated as a driver and mechanic at the Thunder Bowl in Carpentaria CA during the early 1950’s.
Richard was a journryman carpenter with local 1072 for forty years and worked on various buildings in the area including UCSB and the El Paseo. He was an active member of St. Rafael Catholic Church in Goleta Ca. in which included membership in the Knights of Columbus. He participated in building a concession stand and clearing the field for Goleta’s first Little League baseball field. Richard was a member of the Santa Barbara Search and Rescue Team when it was first started. He was an avid bowler with the Pacific maintenance group. He lived in Essex Montana for several years where he enjoyed fishing and working on restoring old cabins.
Precedent in death by his parents Louis and Jessie Acosta. Richard leaves behind three children Ronald Acosta of Santa Barbara CA, Randall Acosta of Bakersfield CA and Robert Acosta of Victoria Texas. Richard had 6 grandchildren and one great grandson.
