An estimated 50 barrels of crude oil spilled into a creekbed Thursday afternoon in the 7000 block of Graciosa Road in Orcutt, authorities said.
Santa Barbara County Fire Department crews were notified of the spill by the California Office of Emergency Services at approximately 12:30 p.m. Fire crews responded and found several barrels of oil had spilled but the spill was quickly contained, said Capt. Daneil Bertucelli, fire spokesman.
A pipe in the area was clamped and the spill was stopped. The fire department sent an oil and gas specialist to the scene, who was joined by members of the California Fish and Wildlife Office of Spill Prevention and Response.
Supervised cleanup efforts began Thursday night, Capt. Bertucelli said.
The cause of the spill is under investigation.
