SANTA MARIA A man was arrested in connection with an attempted bank robbery Thursday at the Chase Bank, 2200 South Broadway, police said.
At approximately 11:44 a.m. Thursday, police responded to the bank and arrested Juan Angel Salinas Pena, 25, as he exited the bank. An investigation revealed Mr. Pena entered the bank and told one of the bank tellers that he had a gun and demanded money, according to a Santa Maria Police Department news release.
As police arrived, Mr. Pena attempted to flee the bank prior to the bank teller giving him money and he was apprehended in the parking lot, police said.
Officers did not locate a gun on Mr. Pena, who was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of attempted bank robbery and a parole violation.
