“I am grateful for life, everything else is just grace? or icing on the cake” DGB
David George Beamer, was born February, 23, 1930 in Kansas City Missouri. On January 6, 2019, with a soft launch, he sailed off into the Sunday morning sunrise.
David felt lucky to have grown up in Duluth, MN, and to be raised by his grandparents. He was a graduate of Whitworth College, Princeton Seminary and San Francisco Theological Seminary. A pastor for 41 years, he served churches in Walnut Creek, San Leandro, San Jose and Ashland, Oregon. After extensive training, he took an early retirement to begin a private practice in the field of Medical Hypnotherapy. In 1996, he and his wife, Diane McCurry, moved to Carpinteria, Diane’s hometown. True to form, he became very active in the community. He helped the City develop the Host Program. He was also trained in the CERT program, was a mentor for CASA, and taught Mind Body classes in the Santa Barbara City College Adult Ed program. He also seemed to find time for a private counseling practice.
David was a very physically active individual. He was a distant runner, lead many backpacking trips into the Sierra with his children and friends, sailed his sail boats, in the Pacific, California and Oregon lakes, and the San Francisco Bay. He was also a life long skier, having grown up in a city with a ski jump in the park. In his later years, he fell in love with biking both road bikes and a recumbent trike. He loved riding his trike to Starbucks, where he had his own table for anyone that wanted to join the discussions.
David had a very active life but what he was most proud of were his children by his first wife, Margaret Elizabeth Green. His sons, Jonathan, Stephen, and Daniel, and daughter Rebecca Reitinger brought him much joy and lots of laughs. To them, he was just “Paw”.
He was then blessed when he married Diane McCurry in 1979 to enjoy the lives of his “bonus kids”: Mickey, Jeffery, Mitchell Rymer and Kirsten Lieder. He also had 5 grandsons, 7 granddaughters and 1 great grandson.
In addition to his wife, children and their spouses, and grandchildren, David is also survived by his sister Sarah Beamer Stevens, three nieces and one nephew.
The family would like to thank Assisted Hospice Care for the loving care they gave David and the unending support for Diane. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Assisted Hospice, 302 N. Milpas St., Suite 103, Santa Barbara, CA 93103.
A Celebration of David’s life will be held Saturday, February 9th, at 2:00pm at Valle Verde, 900 Calle de los Amigos, Santa Barbara, CA 93105, 805-883-4003. A reception will follow the service.
