Siena Urzua had a team-high 14 kills on Saturday as Bishop Diego advances to the third round of the CIF-SS Division 8 Bracket following a four-set win over Garey High with set scores of 21-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-18. Amber Watkins added 10 kills as well.
In the fourth set, Ai-Yan Shefflin had an eight-point serving run which helped Bishop Diego pull away for its first road playoff win since at least 2002.
Senior Ariana Morones added four kills in the middle while sophomore Amy Mancinelli And Alina Urzua combined for 28 assists on the night.
With the win, the Cardinals (13-12) will travel to face Trinity High in the third round at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
CATE 3, VALLEY VIEW 0
Cate earned its second sweep of the CIF-SS Division 6 Bracket on Saturday, defeating West Valley High in three sets with scores of 25-15, 25-20, 25-18.
With the win, Cate (20-3) will travel to face Valley View at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
NOTRE DAME ACADEMY 3, DOS PUEBLOS 0
Dos Pueblos got off to a bad start in the first set losing 25-6 and never really recovered losing in straight sets in the CIF-SS Division 3 Bracket with the final two sets scores of 25-21, 25-17 ending the Chargers season.
OAKWOOD 3, THACHER 0
Thacher’s season came to a close after losing in straight sets on Saturday in the Division 8 Bracket.
