After uniting almost 90 countries’ technology communities, Blockchain Summit comes to Santa Barbara today.
The event takes place from 8 a.m. until 5:15 p.m. at IUCSB. Prominent speakers in the tech industry will shed light on such topics as technology’s role in preserving democracy and the weaponization of personal data.
Some of the almost 20 speakers are definitely needle movers in their fields. Brian Fox, a computer programmer and entrepreneur, will talk about “preserving democracy with open source technology,” according to the summit’s schedule. Mr. Fox created the first interactive online banking platform in the U.S. for Wells Fargo in the mid 1990s. He promotes using open-source software for balloting systems.
Other speakers include Julian Wheatland, the former CEO, CFO and COO for the now defunct information technology consulting company Cambridge Analytica, who will discuss “Weaponization of Personal Data.”Tickets are about $7 for high school students, $17 for college student; about $34 for university faculty; and about $108 general admission.
