The Santa Barbara Police Department released the identity of the woman killed in a bus crash Wednesday afternoon.
According to a statement sent out on Thursday, the victim was 67-year-old Eve Debra Johnson.
At 2:16 p.m. Wednesday, officers received reports of a crash at the corner of Figueroa Street and Chapala Street.
Witnesses say the Metropolitan Transit District bus was traveling north on Chapala Street before making a right turn east onto Figueroa Street. For an unknown reason, the bus continued turning, drove up onto the sidewalk and struck Ms. Johnson and another victim. The second victim was critically injured.
MTD released a statement on Thursday afternoon:
“MTD offers our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the individuals involved. MTD is cooperating fully with the investigation being conducted by the Santa Barbara Police Department, and due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, no additional information is available at this time.”
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
