On June 21st 2013, our beloved father and husband Custodio “Gus, Chuco, Pop” Vaca Campos lost his battle to cancer, and went to be with our Lord. He was a man of few words, with a big impact on the lives he touched. He was a caring brother, friend, and Marine.
He was born in Santa Barbara at Cottage Hospital n June 3, 1944. He served our country in the United States Marine Corps, traveled the world and settled back in his home town to raise his sons Custodio Campos III, Chris Campos and daughter Marie Campos Echevarria. He later moved to Ventura County to enjoy his retirement with dear friends while camping, barbecuing, hanging out and enjoying a cold beer.
It was during this time that he met his adoring wife Teresa. He was a true gift to her by bringing courage, strength, inspiration and unconditional love. They spent their days laughing, dancing, eating, and enjoying all that life has to offer in each others company.
He was fascinated by the latest kitchen gadget, as he was an amazing chef. He filled his days intrigued by vintage motorcycles, classic firearms and an occasional hunting trip. Those who had the honor of knowing him knew that his Chihuahuas were his life, his companions, his “babies”. His Chihuahuas often ate better meals than the average person.
He courageously fought until the very end against the horrid disease of cancer. With family and friends by his side, he embraced his final days with simple rides to the beach, quick visits to those he loved, and watching a good television show. A special thanks to Dr. Rodnick, one of the best doctors one can have on your side in this battle, and to Rose Room Hospice for helping to care for him.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26th, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home, 757 E. Main Street, Ventura, with a Rosary at 7 p.m. in the Funeral Home. Funeral Mass Thursday, June 27th at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 10800 Henderson Road, Ventura. Aerial Scattering of Ashes at Sea with 1st Memorial Honor Detail on Saturday, June 29th at the end of the Ventura Pier at 10 a.m. (weather permitting).
