Let the races begin!
Today, The Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara’s hosts their 27th annual Walk/Run benefitting the Clinical Research Program and Patient Care Programs at Ridley-Tree Cancer Center. Located at Montecito Union School, the first race begins at 8 a.m. Attendees are invited to stay for a complimentary breakfast provided by Four Seasons Resort Santa Barbara.
After participants take to the streets, prizes will be awarded to the largest team, the team that raises the most money overall, and the “first place” team, which raises the most money on average per person. One individual will also be awarded the Julie Main Inspiration of Hope Award, given to someone who embodies exceptional perseverance, courage, and hope.
The award honors Julie Main, who played a remarkable role in organizing the Walk/Run before her passing 11 years ago. Now, Ms. Main’s legacy lives on through those that like her, use exercise to cope with cancer.
Since its inception in 1993, the Walk/Run has raised over $3.6 million. Eager to raise more, participants are back this year with a $200,000 goal in sight. All proceeds go towards the innovative and supportive care provided at Ridley-Tree Cancer Center.
Through their Clinical Research Program, the Center offers access to a global network of clinical trials, a benefit not available at all cancer treatment facilities. The Center also provides supportive care programs like wellness classes, music therapy, and genetic counseling to name a few. Funds raised at the Walk/Run are instrumental in ensuring these programs not only continue, but progress.
