An informational meeting about preparations in the Cave Fire burn are for the winter storm season is set for Thursday.
Santa Barbara County public safety and flood control officials and the U.S. Forest Service Burn Area Emergency Response will hold the meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at 6100 Wallace Becknell Road (Direct Relief International), county spokeswoman Gina DePinto said in a news release.
Experts will update the public on the Cave Fire burn area, mitigation, preparations and decision-making processes in advance of the storm season.
The burn scar from the recent Cave Fire has a heightened risk of flooding and debris flows during storms, Ms. DePinto said. The southern foothills and surrounding communities have experienced occasional rockslides and flooding. Public safety officials will evaluate each incoming storm and determine what protective actions, if any, the public should take, Ms. DePinto said. Residents should be prepared to take action and follow the instructions of public safety officials.
A preliminary map is available at www.ReadySBC.org, along with preparedness tips. The public can register at the website to receive emergency alerts.
