And then there were four.
The Channel League Girls Tennis Individual Championship were whittled down from 16 to four on Monday afternoon at Santa Barbara High, with semifinalists representing three different schools.
Tournament favorite Kayla King of Cabrillo cruised through two matches, including a 6-1, 6-1 win over Santa Ynez’s Emmy Withrow in the quarterfinals.
King will face San Marcos’ Fiona Kinsella today in the semifinals after Kinsella dispatched for Santa Barbara High’s Sophia Ostovany, 6-4, 6-1.
San Marcos freshman standout Natasha Gill also advanced to the semis after a 7-6, 6-4 win over Dos Pueblos’ top player, Alessa Somer.
Gill will face Santa Barbara High’s Heidi Hatton in the semis, with Hatton dispatching of Charlotte Manion of San Marcos, 6-2, 6-0.
The semifinals will take place at 3 p.m. today at Santa Barbara High, with the finals set for Thursday at the Tennis Club of Santa Barbara.
The doubles championship will begin on Wednesday at Santa Barbara High, with the semifinals and finals concluding on Thursday at the Tennis Club.
