An aspiring young life was prematurely cut short as a result of a tragic hit and run incident on Tuesday, January 15, 2013. Simon was born on October 2, 1990 in Santa Barbara and attended local schools. A graduate of Santa Barbara high School, he epitomized the phrase “Once a Don, always a Don”. He was attending SBCC with plans on continuing his education at Cal State Channel Islands. Simon was an outstanding baseball player at SBHS and had been coaching baseball since his graduation in 2008, serving as head coach of last year’s junior varsity while attending city college. In addition, Simon worked as a waiter at Café del Sol Restaurant and Las Aves Restaurant and worked at the front desk of the Santa Barbara Athletic Club.
Simon possessed an infectious smile who was always laughing and joking with people, a trait that endeared him to all who knew him. He had great respect for others which made him such an effective coach with younger guys. Simon loved music, especially “old school” and collected records of the 1980’s. he started bowling recently and enjoyed the game of squash. Simon also had a talent for drawing. He was a kind and giving individual and worked with the Special Olympics. He helped others with special needs including his own family and aspired on becoming an educator and coach.
Simon is survived by his parents, Luis and Ana Quintanar; his siblings, Cristian and Tatiana Quintanar; his grandparents, Mamita and Papi 5; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and other relatives.
The Rosary Service will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, 7:30 pm and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 24, 10:00 am, both at Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
Simon (Papito), in your short time here with us you have impacted our lives tremendously and we are better individuals as a result of your kindness, grace, smile, and giving nature. We will honor your live and deeds forever.
