California Highway Patrol is seeking a man who fled on foot after a pursuit Thursday night. At about 9:45 p.m. Thursday, CHP observed a gray Mazda traveling northbound on Highway 101 at Turnpike Road with expired registration tabs. Officers attempted to make an enforcement stop on the vehicle and directed the driver to exit the freeway at Patterson Avenue, where the driver accelerated and exited. The Mazda turned right onto Patterson Avenue and traveled northbound, failing to yield to the patrol vehicle with emergency lights and siren activated. The Mazda continued traveling on Patterson Avenue at 60 to 65 mph. The Mazda then made a right turn onto Cathedral Oaks, picking up speed to travel eastbound at 70 to 80 mph. The Mazda eventually turned left from Foothill Road to North Ontare Road, traveling northbound until reaching a dead end. The solo male driver exited the Mazda and fled on foot into a wooded area. A short foot pursuit ensued, but officers lost sight of him. A search was conducted of the area, but the suspect was not located. The Mazda was impounded for further investigation. The incident is under investigation. If anyone has any details, please call the Santa Barbara CHP Office at 805-967-1234.
