SOLVANG The 2019 Chumash Charity Golf Classic will benefit Rancho Alegre, which was destroyed by the Whittier Fire in 2017, and other organizations, the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Foundation announced Monday.
Campo Rancho Alegre has been used as a camping destination by the Boy Scouts and the Outdoor School. The Whittier Fire destroyed 47 structures while leaving only three intact. The total cost to rebuild and modernize Rancho Alegre is estimated at $15.5 million, of which $9 million will be covered by insurance. The Boy Scouts Los Padres Council is attempting to raise the remaining $6.5 million, according to a Chumash news release.
The two-day event golf classic will be held Aug. 21-22 at the Alisal River Course in Solvang. Besides the Rancho Alegre rebuild, the event will help fund the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians’ Technology in Schools Program.
