The Cate girls basketball team has been on fire as of late and it did not stop on Thursday. The Rams played host to Costa Mesa in the CIF-SS Div. 4A firs round and routed the Mustangs, 62-29 to move on to the second round of the postseason.
Meena Baher scored a game-high 28 points in the win while senior Maya Blattberg added another seven points.
With the win, Cate (12-2) has now won 12 consecutive contests.
Their 33 point win also does not come as a surprise as the Rams have beaten their opponents by an average margin of 31 points per game during their 12-game win streak.
Only one of those wins came by less than double digits as well, a contest against Dos Pueblos, which is a member of the Channel League.
Cate led by only two after the first period but began its takeover in the second quarter when it outscored Costa Mesa 19-5. The Rams then outdid themselves in the third frame, outscoring the Mustangs 16-0 to take a commanding 47-15 lead.
Cate then won the fourth period 15-11 to take home a resounding win.
With the victory, the Rams will move into the second round where they will face Capistrano Valley.
