The Dos Pueblos High boys soccer team was on the road for its CIF-SS Div. 2 first-round match against Valencia.
The Chargers fell behind early, trailing 2-0 about 20 minutes into the contest but goals from Leo Rubio and Seba Dupont helped DP level the match before halftime.
To open up the second half, the Chargers were the team in control and in the 62nd minute, Dupont flicked the ball to Aldo Becerril who put it home and gave DP its first lead of the match.
With about two minutes remaining in the contest, the Chargers were looking to clear a ball but failed to do so, resulting in a goal for Valencia and sending the match to overtime.
In overtime, seven minutes in, Becerril, a senior captain, again came through for his squad, scoring a golden goal and giving his team the 4-3 win.
“I’m so proud of our boys for how hard they fight all game but I’m most proud for how they battled back from a zero to two deficit on the road in the playoffs. It was a great all-around performance, and we look forward to a match on Friday,” DP coach Matt York said.
DP will host Huntington Beach at 5 p.m. on Friday in the second round.
