Only days after snapping an 18-year drought in winning the outright Channel League title, the Santa Barbara High football team will look to erase yet another streak on Friday night.
The Dons — or the Golden Tornado as they’re called in the postseason — received the No. 2 seed in the CIF-SS Div. 8 playoffs on Sunday afternoon, and will face Gahr on Friday at San Marcos High.
Santa Barbara will look to end a decades-long losing streak in the CIF playoffs, having not secured a win in more than 20 years.
Gahr comes into the game with a 3-7 record as an at-large berth out of the San Gabriel Valley League.
Due to ongoing and delayed construction at Peabody Stadium, the Dons will be playing at Warkentin Stadium.
Three other local teams made the postseason as well, with all three headed on the road.
In Div. 5, Lompoc has a long journey to Glendora ahead, with the hosts sporting a 9-1 record as the second-place team out of the Palomares League.
Also, in Div. 5, Bishop Diego received an at-large bid into the playoffs, and will take on the division top seed in Culver City, which is 10-0 and won the Ocean League.
Finally, Dos Pueblos will travel to Crespi, which won the Angelus League with a 6-4 overall record.
All games are slated for 7:30 p.m.
