ISLA VISTA The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department is accepting applications for the first ever Citizen’s Academy designed for college students, faculty and residents of Isla Vista.
The free, five-week course begins Feb. 2 with classes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday. The class concludes March 2 with a graduation and celebratory barbecue, according to Kelly Hoover, sheriff’s spokeswoman.
This will be the first academy focused on Isla Vista-related issue for I.V. residents. Isla Vista Community Resource Deputy Justin Schroeder will put on the academy.
Those interested in joining can submit an application found at sbsheriff.org. You can also scan and email the applications to Senior Deputy Shroeder at firstname.lastname@example.org or drop off an application in a sealed envelope to the Isla Vista substation, 6504 Trigo Road.
Applications must be submitted by Jan. 29.
