LOMPOC The city of Lompoc sent out a message on Monday to remind residents that self-regenerating water softeners are forbidden under city code.
In an effort to “Halt the Salt” the city says that water softeners increase salt in the wastewater system, which then increases wastewater fees for everyone in Lompoc.
“The City of Lompoc is required to limit salt in its wastewater in order to achieve the water quality objectives mandated by the Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board,” the city said in the reminder. “Compliance from the community with keeping excess salt out of the city’s wastewater helps keep wastewater fees low for the public.”
Self-regenerating water softeners are considered “unlawful” under Ordinance 13.16.320.
Community members who wish to learn more about the ordinance or have questions about city policy on water softeners are asked to contact Katrina Dorsey at k_dorsey@ci.lompoc.ca.us.
