SANTA MARIA The Santa Barbara County Fair kicks off at noon today at the Santa Maria Fairpark in its 128th year.
The fair will run through Sunday with live music, livestock auctions, carnival rides and a professional bull riding event on Saturday featuring celebrity rodeo bull Bushwacker, a three-time Professional Bull Riders “World Champion Bull.”
Referred to as the Michael Jordan of bulls, Bushwacker was awarded the PBR Heroes and Legends Celebration Brand of Honor in 2016, said fair spokeswoman Shelly Cone.
“Now in retirement, Bushwacker is used for natural breeding, and makes celebrity appearances,” said Ms. Cone.
On Thursday and Friday evening Bushwacker will be available for public meet and greets at the Far Western, accompanied by owner Julio Moreno, of Julio Moreno Bucking Bulls. Organizers will give away tickets to the PBR event at the fair.
“Though Bushwacker is now retired, you’ll find plenty of exciting action at the PBR event at 5 p.m. on Saturday, at the Budweiser Minetti Arena,” said Ms. Cone.
