SANTA BARBARA The bicyclist who was killed July 5 on Modoc Road has been identified as a Santa Barbara transient, officials said Tuesday.
Daniel Robinson, 54, was riding on Modoc Road near the entrance to the Obern Trail bicycle path when he collided with a 2003 Ford Explorer driven by Monque Martinez, 48, at 12:39 a.m. July 5, Kelly Hoover, spokeswoman for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department, told the News-Press.
Ms. Martinez did not see Mr. Robinson, as he was reportedly traveling outside of the bike lane, without a helmet and was not wearing any reflective clothing or lighting devices, according to the July 5 news release. He was thrown from his bicycle and died at the scene.
Ms. Martinez was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol when she was evaluated by California Highway Patrol. It still remains unclear whether Mr. Robinson was under the influence.
