May 16, 1938 – February 16, 2013
Sandy was born in Oakdale, California to Vivian and Wesley Walther. She spent her youth in Oakdale and then attended the University of California at Berkeley and San Jose State University, graduating with a degree in bacterial sciences.
She lived briefly in Lausanne, Switzerland before moving to Santa Barbara, California in 1969. She fell in love with the vistas and culture of Santa Fe, New Mexico and moved there more than a decade ago after retiring as a microbiologist with Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara.
Sandy was, at heart, an adventurer who loved traveling to exotic locales. She was also a consummate piano player and avid tennis player, skier, hiker, photographer, gardener and dog lover.
Sandy is survived by her three children: Katrina (Ray), David (Angie), Krysten (Christopher); six grandchildren: Nicole, Ryan, Kyle, Lily, Kallista and Crawford; and a sister, Jan Walther of San Jose, California. She was preceded in death by her beloved standard poodle Zachary.
A private memorial will be held in Santa Fe. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so may contribute to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society, 100 Caja Del Rio Road, Santa Fe, NM 87507.
