The recent commentaries by Jay Ambrose (June 21), and Adriana Cohen (June 22) about immigration hit the nail on the head. There is a real crisis happening on our southern border now, and all the Democrats do is play politics and point fingers.
Our overwhelmed Border Patrol and ICE agents are currently seeing an average of 100,000 illegals attempting to cross the border every month, and if illegals continue to flood in at this pace, that means that over 1 million will try to illegally cross our border this year.
Yes, the detention centers are in deplorable conditions, and people are dying, but that’s because the Democrats refuse to release the billions needed to make conditions better. They would rather blame President Trump than do the right thing. It makes one think that the Democrats want conditions at the border to be as bad as they are, seeing that next year is an election year.
I’m no fan of Donald Trump, but at least he’s trying to do something about our broken immigration system. There have been several immigration laws enacted since 1986, including: Immigration Reform &Control Act (1986), IIRIRA (1996), Enhanced Border Security Act (2002), and Real ID ACT (2005), and the Democrats are flat-out refusing to enforce them. Instead, they would rather come out with ignorant statements, such as AOC’s “concentration camps”comment. Gov. Newsom is also exacerbating the problem by proposing to give illegal aliens free health care.
I considered myself a Democrat for over 30 years, but lately they’ve become the party of hate and apathy. Not only are they doing absolutely nothing to fix the problem, they’re also impeding Mr. Trump from trying fix the problem. They need to stop pointing fingers and work with Mr. Trump to find a solution to this immigration nightmare that both parties have gotten us into.
