Dennis Divins or “Denny” to those who loved him, passed away suddenly Tuesday evening the 14th of may the day before his 70th birthday. He led a full exciting life which included working as a county fireman in Santa Barbara and as the campus safety diving officer at the University of California Santa Barbara. He loved to travel and visited many domestic and foreign locations but his absolute favorites were Yosemite, Hawaii and Channel Islands.
He had many interests including hiking, backpacking, skiing, football and photography. But his passions were scuba diving, animals, ceramics and being with his wife, daughter and extended family, including 64 pets. His outstanding qualities could fill a book but none exceeded his kindness, compassion, willingness to help and love of a practical joke. He is survived by wife Sherry Piatt of Arnold, daughter Christy Divins-Campbell of Santee, CA, sister Mikel Divins Sedoo of Huntington Beach, CA. Grandchildren Rebecca, Steven, Amanda Campbell and great grandchild Olivia Campbell. His surviving spouse believes Denny’s wishes would best be fulfilled by each individual taking the time to remember what he meant to them and living their life in that direction, therefore no services are planned.
In lieu of flowers you can honor Dennis by making a donation to an organization he believed in some of which include the Ocean Conservancy, ASPCA, NRDC, or the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
