Progress continues for the Earl Warren Showgrounds, with incremental approvals allowing the facility to near a much-needed renovation.
According to a news release sent to the News-Press on Saturday night, “the Board of Directors of the Earl Warren Showgrounds unanimously approved a board resolution formalizing the partnership with the Santa Barbara Equine Assistance and Evacuation Team to implement a phased renovation plan for the equestrian center at Earl Warren Showgrounds.”
After a year in which rumors circulated that the showgrounds might be closing its longtime doors, the renewed focus on improving the facility has been apparent over the past eight weeks.
According to the news release, “phased improvements will address critical needs and prepare the facility to host multiple equestrian events during the 2020 show season and beyond. All improvements are anticipated to not only improve the condition of the equestrian facility, but that of the entire grounds with the goal of ensuring that Earl Warren becomes a long-term sustainable facility.”
SBEAET board member Karen Christensen will manage and execute the renovation, with oversight coming from Showgrounds CEO Ben Sprague.
The renovation will come via donations to the SBEAET, with $300,000 of the $750,000 already raised.
Work on the project is expected to begin imminently, with the fundraising efforts ongoing.
If you’d like to make a donation, you can make checks payable to Santa Barbara Equine Assistance and Evacuation Team Inc., and should be sent to P.O. Box 60535, Santa Barbara, CA, 93160. You can also contact Ms. Christensen via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or phone at 805-699-5592.
