Former Santa Barbara Forester Josh Jung (2017) will stay in his native Texas after the third baseman was taken by the Texas Rangers with the eighth pick in the MLB Draft Monday afternoon.
Jung hit .340 with 11 home runs, 53 RBIs and 51 walks in his junior campaign at Texas Tech – a year after hitting .392 with 80 RBIs in a standout sophomore season.
His durability is second-to-none, starting all 179 games in his three years with the Red Raiders. He had a .347 career average with 29 home runs and 176 RBIs, while also sporting a .970 fielding percentage.
“I’m not surprised by this selection of Josh,” said Foresters long-time coach Bill Pintard. “We knew he was a special player when he was here, but he was special as a person as well. And nobody worked harder to make himself better player than Josh. I am thrilled for him.”
Jung was a member of the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.
