
Betty L. Ferrand died January 13, 2019. Born Betty Louise Huddleston in Sellers, Louisiana April 4, 1930 but raised in Vandalia, IL until she was 11 when the family moved to Los Angeles. She graduated from Belmont High School, L.A., married and raised two sons by her first husband Ralph Valvano. She was widowed in her early twenties, attended San Fernando Valley College and worked as an electrical draftsman. She was remarried in 1972 to George Ferrand of Goleta, CA, returned to college in her 40s, graduating in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. She was preceded in death in Nov. 2017 by her eldest son Michael Valvano of Lakeview, AR and is survived by her husband George Ferrand and her son Richard Valvano both of Goleta, CA; also granddaughter Christina Moser, 5 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. In her final years she suffered from dementia. She was 88.
