89, passed away on July 8, 2013. Evey, the daughter of Max and Lillian Bubman, was raised in Indiana. After graduating from high school in Gary, Evey attended Indiana University, where she met her husband Yale. Evey and Yale were married almost 50 years, until Yale passed away in 1994.
Yale and Evey moved to Los Angeles and then Hidden Hills following World War II, raising four children – Michele, Michael, Rhoni and Randy. After their children had graduated from high school, Evey and Yale moved to the Santa Ynez Valley to further their passion of raising Arabian horses. After Yale’s passing, Evey moved to Santa Barbara, and eventually to San Luis Obispo to be closer to her children.
Evey’s passion was her family. To say Evey was devoted to her family is an understatement. As a mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt and friend she was the one everyone turned to for advice, perspective, help and a pat on the back.
So many friends of Evey’s children became part of the family – and the number of people who considered Evey as their surrogate mom is too numerous to count.
An extremely philanthropic person, there wasn’t a charity too large or too small to which she didn’t contribute. Whether it was the local food banks, disabled veterans organizations, animal rights groups, senior citizen charities, aid to the blind, environmental non-profits, earthquake relief organizations, hurricane relief funds, local hospitals, any and all Jewish organizations, you could count on Evey for support. In addition to all of the charities to which Evey generously donated money, she never turned down a friend or family member in need. It was just part of her nature to help people. And, Evey had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.
Some people give great advice, but Evey always gave a great perspective. After losing her husband Yale, Evey would often say she realized that while she knew she would have a million wonderful things to look forward to over the rest of her life, from that point on, she never again would have a perfect day. She now joins her husband Yale along with her daughter Michele, her grandson Benjamin and her parents Max and Lillian.
Evey is survived by her three children Mike and wife Lydia, Rhoni and her husband Jerry, Randy and wife Donna, and her four grandchildren, Jamie, Danielle, Abbey and Kati. In lieu of flowers, please give a donation to the charity of your choice.
