74, longtime resident of Carpinteria CA, went to be with our Lord on July 15, 2013. Mary was born on July 5, 1939 in Gomez Palacio, Durango Mexico. She left Mexico at the age of 16 with her two sisters and went to Santa Barbara, CA in pursuit of a better life.
She met her husband, Francisco Frias, at her sister’s house and the two fell in love and were married 6 months later. Shortly after, the couple moved to Carpinteria to start a family and enjoyed 28 years of marriage prior to his death in 1991.
Mary was a vibrant woman with a big heart who
adored her family. She took pride in being a homemaker and raising her three children in a loving home. When her children were older she began a career in retail. Many local Carpinterians’ sought her advice on fabrics at the TG&Y store where she was employed for many years. Mary was a skilled seamstress and was always eager to share her know-ledge. She was a lover of music, whether it be singing with a Mariachi band or dancing cumbias, she was always the center of attention and brought a smile to your face. After the death of her husband and eldest daughter, Mary relocated to Chandler AZ to be with her remaining children.
She is preceded in death by her husband Francisco and daughter Elvira Frias Ruiz. She is survived by her daughter Sandra Frias Ortega, son Jaime Francisco Frias, 6 grandchildren as well as many nephews and nieces.
Not knowing what the future would bring, 10 days prior to her unexpected death, Mary asked to return to Santa Barbara to celebrate her 74th birthday with her sister Carmen Ponce and many members of her family. The sisters got a chance to reminisce and Mary vowed to return soon to Santa Barbara. She will now be returning to her beloved Santa Barbara as her final resting place.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday July 26th at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church located at 227 N. Nopal Street at 10 am with Interment following at the Santa Barbara Cemetery.
