(1926 – 2013)
Margaret Gibbens died on January 3, 2013, in Tiburon, California. A fifth generation Oregonian, “Maggie” was predeceased by her husband, Stephen, her mother Agnes Patricia, her father Earl Mullen and her step-father James Leer. She met and married Stephen in Laguna Beach, California in 1945, with whom she enjoyed 62 years of marriage before his death in 2009.
Maggie’s gifts of loyalty and gregariousness enabled her to enjoy a wealth of deep, enduring friendships – from those made in childhood to the many she continued to form throughout her 86 years. Maggie and Steve traveled widely, sailed the California coast on their sailboat, and became superb gardeners at their home in Santa Barbara, where Maggie served as docent at the Natural History Museum. They returned to the Bay Area (Marin County) in 2002.
Maggie is survived by her children Moira Feingold (Kenneth), Rory Gibbens-Flores (Rafael Flores), Briny Litchfield (Robert), Deirdre Rogers (Michael), and Nicholas (Theresa), and her loving grandchildren Zachary Feingold (Arianna D’Aloia), Adriana Flores-Gibbens, Joshua Feingold (Jennifer Satenstein), Joaquin Flores-Gibbens, Stephen B. Litchfield, Diego Flores-Gibbens, Kelli Litchfield, Connor Gibbens, Fiona Gibbens, and Declan Gibbens.
A memorial mass will be held on March 9, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Isabella in San Rafael, California.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in her memory to the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.
