Using eminent domain to acquire private property for extending Ekwill Street and Fowler Road will be considered today by the Goleta City Council.
A two-thirds vote of the council is needed to pass a resolution of necessity for taking the property in Old Town, according to the council agenda.
City spokeswoman Kelly Hoover said the street extensions are among the city’s highest transportation priorities. City staff is recommending that the council approve the resolution.
Also today, the council will select a mayor pro tem from among its members.
The mayor pro tem serves a one-year term as a backup to Mayor Paula Perotte. Councilman Kyle Richards is the outgoing mayor pro tem.
In other business, the council will continue discussion of a proposed new zoning ordinance and will look at a proposed General Plan amendment that would extend affordable, inclusionary housing requirements to rental housing projects, Ms. Hoover said.
Today’s council meeting begins with a 4 p.m. closed session followed by the regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 130 Cremona Drive, Suite B.
