Santa Barbara County Board Chair Supervisor Gregg Hart and First District Supervisor Das Williams are calling on the Board of Supervisors to “approve a moratorium on evictions of residential tenants who live in the unincorporated areas of Santa Barbara County during this local emergency period due to circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
They released a joint statement:
“We must avoid the creation of a greater public health emergency that would result from subjecting families to homelessness. It is imperative we do everything possible to make sure people are safe and secure in their homes and that we prevent eviction.”
The Santa Barbara City Council is scheduled to vote on a similar measure Tuesday, with plenty of discussion on March 17 about protecting renters in Santa Barbara.
The Goleta City Council approved a temporary moratorium on residential and commercial evictions that went into effect on March 17 and will extend for at least 60 days.
