County Supervisor Joan Hartmann is typically soft-spoken and deliberative. However, she recently unleashed an incredibly insulting diatribe in her endorsement of the Green New Deal. With insolent bombast, she likened climate change to the horrors of the Holocaust in particular, and World War II in general.
This unfortunate rhetoric is altogether too common these days, as high liberals and activists assert that the damage from climate change, including the hypothetical human death toll, will surpass that of World War II. In addition, they make the charge that climate change deniers are the Nazis of today who should be held responsible for the impending death and destruction.
Ironically, it is Ms. Hartmann and her ilk that are being fitted for jack boots as it relates to this issue of climate change, if in fact they are true believers. Do remember that the Nazi Party was a socialist party that took ownership of everything in order to implement their new world order. That is exactly what today’s Democrats plan to do, at least here in the States, regardless of how superfluous the results.
They want to eliminate all of our energy sources that actually deliver 24/7, and they have proposals to impose income tax rates of upwards of 90 percent, in addition to taxes on assets, the latter of which will eventually take people’s entire wealth away. Moreover, they have threatened to jail climate change deniers for the crime of being unconvinced.
While declaring war on our economy and quality of life, America’s wanna-be socialists have nevertheless conveniently ignored the fact that China and other emerging countries, such as India and Pakistan, are generating over half of the world’s greenhouse gases, with no end in sight. These countries refuse to curtail their emissions because cheap and plentiful energy supplies, namely coal, are integral to growing their economies and improving the lifestyles and lifespans of their citizens. This begs the question, why not go to war against these countries in order to save the planet? If we are truly in the midst of an existential crisis, and we only have 12 years to save everything, mustn’t we?
Unfortunately, beneath all this virtue signaling and cheap rhetoric here in the States, there is a not-so-subtle and utterly rotten elitist motive at play here. By denying third-world countries cheap power, they are relegating billions of people to the unabated fate of starvation and premature death. Unlike the climate change holocaust rhetoric, these are real, not hypothetical, deaths. All this in order to placate the master races of first-world countries who would rather ostensibly save the planet than the people. That is, the world’s poor are being forced to continue to live without the benefits of the 150-year-old industrial and energy revolution that has yet to save them from privation.
Relatively few Americans, let alone people living in abject poverty the world over, are like Supervisor Hartmann, who has the wealth and subsidies at hand to afford a Tesla and enjoy rooftop solar, as they tout the use of renewable energy sources that cost magnitudes more than conventional energy sources.
Regardless, if the green elites in America have their way, nothing much is going to change for the poor while the elites enjoy life ensconced in modernity.
There is no denying that the real death toll in the world today arises from food insecurity and numerous diseases stemming from the policies that people like Ms. Hartmann support. A comment I received said it all. Supervisor Hartmann is living in a healthy and prosperous bubble, inflated by the technology she loathes, but can’t live without — the very same technology she would deny others due to a pathological ideology.
