SANTA BARBARA The fifth annual Santa Barbara Gun Buyback will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Earl Warren Showgrounds.
More than 1,200 firearms have been turned in at these gun buybacks, according to a news release from the Coalition Against Gun Violence. Those who turned in firearms were given Smart & Final gift cards.
This year, $80 gift cards will be given for handguns and shotguns, while those who turn in “assault weapons” will receive a $160 gift card. Those who turn in ammunition will not receive any gift cards, according to the news release.
The Coalition Against Gun Violence and the Santa Barbara Police Department are working together on the gun buyback. Additional sponsors include Smart & Final, the city of Santa Barbara, CARP Growers, Fund for Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara Women’s Political Committee and the Democratic Women of Santa Barbara County.
The city of Santa Barbara donated $10,000 for the event.
