December 20th, 1923 – June 11th, 2013
Edna Katharine Hare died June 11th in Alhambra, California. A native of Boston, Massachusetts, she earned her academic degree at Boston College, working thereafter at the Lahey Clinic, where she met her future husband, Dr. Hugh F. Hare, the head of the Department of Radiology. The couple married in 1959 at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Pasadena, after Dr. Hare relocated to Southern California as a partner at the Los Angeles Tumor Institute.
Hugh and Edna enjoyed glad years at their Pasadena home near the Cal Tech campus, with frequent travel to Mexico and Europe.
Edna became a registered principal at Hadyn and Stone Investment Group in 1965, and soon thereafter founded Hope Street Investment. Following the death of her husband, Edna relocated to Santa Barbara, where she was an active member of All Saints-by-the Sea Episcopal Church and the Music Academy.
In 1999 she moved to the Episcopal Home in Alhambra, California to be near family. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Hugh F. Hare, and her siblings, Robert, William and Lillian Druwing. She is survived by her step-daughter Sue Hare Coombs, her grandchildren Katrina Coombs, Eric Coombs, Gretchen Coombs and Bobby Druwing; and by her adoptive family, the Reverend Canon George F. Woodward III and Stacy Carder Woodward.
Requiem Eucharist will be offered at St. Edmund’s Episcopal Church, San Marino with graveside liturgy following. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Altar Guild of All Saints-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 83 Eucalyptus Lane, Santa Barbara, California 93108.
