90, of Carpinteria, California was born February 11, 1923 in Portland, Oregon to Joseph and Ada Killian and passed away at home on Monday, May 27, 2013. Mary lived in the bay area in her youth and attended Piedmont High School in Piedmont, California. She married Edmund (Ned) Harrison on January 24, 1942. Mary and Ned lived in the Santa Ynez Valley for many years and then moved to Carpinteria in 1964, where Mary lived at the time of her death.
Mary enjoyed reading, playing bridge with her friends, and travelled extensively during her life. Mary was a generous contributor to the arts and to many other nonprofits in the Santa Barbara area. Her husband, Edmund, and her sister, Isabel Redfield of Fairfield, California, preceded her in death.
Mary is survived and missed by her sister, Josephine Nesbitt of Sacramento, California and four sons : Peter of San Miguel, California; Edmund Pitts (Carolyn) of San Miguel; Joseph of Carpinteria, California; and William (Karen) of Big Fork, Montana. Two grandsons also survive her: Toby of Paso Robles, California and Brian (Chrissy) of Longmont, Colorado, and two great granddaughters, Maisey and Grace.
A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Santa Barbara on Saturday, June 1 at 11:00 a.m., immediately followed by a gathering of friends at the Valley Club of Montecito.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be sent to Friends of the Carpinteria Library, 5141 Carpinteria Ave, Carpinteria, CA 93013.
