Third District Supervisor Joan Hartmann will present a resolution recognizing the courageous military service of Army paratrooper and staff sergeant Bindo Stasi Grasso, a nonagenarian resident of Guadalupe, as County Veteran of the Month at 9 a.m. on August 27 at the weekly Board of Supervisors meeting, the County of Santa Barbara announced Friday.
The resolution will highlight some of the courageous and harrowing details of Mr. Grasso’s service including his participation as a paratrooper on D-Day and at the Battle of the Bulge, one of the largest and deadliest battles of WWII, according to a press release. After completing his military service, he returned to Santa Maria, to raise a family and run a successful concrete business, contributing to the fabric of the Santa Maria community.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to shine a light on the courageous contributions military veterans make in support of our basic freedoms. Service members like staff sergeant Grasso have a special place in our community and should be honored and revered for their service,” said Ms. Hartmann.
The public is invited to attend the meeting honoring Mr. Grasso where Mr. Hartmann will read the resolution into the record, or to watch the Board of Supervisors meeting telecast. Honorary resolutions are presented near the start of the meeting at 9 a.m.
