Heather Lynn White (Hendry) lived a life devoted to others. She is best understood as a friend, a mother, and an unforgettable character. She left our world on November 14th, 2018 in her cherished hometown of Santa Barbara, California.
A member of the Hendry clan of Hendry’s beach, Heather grew up alongside her baby brother, the late Norman Hendry, and legions of boy cousins. This situation produced a young woman who was never afraid to get her hands dirty and who relished in competing with the boys in all manor of sport. A foot race against a young Heather Hendry or any bullying of her younger brother Norm did not produce satisfactory results.
The best way to endear yourself to Heather was through simple honesty. In turn, you never had to worry how she felt about you because she was always obliged to fill you in. Honesty was paramount to Heather and it fueled the sense of humor that she became famous for. “Quite a ways from prissy,” Heather will always be known as a “throwback” who called it exactly as she saw it.
Heather’s purpose in life was to raise children. In earlier trips to Mexico and Guatemala, Heather was known to pluck children from the streets so that she could clean them up and feed them a meal. This was not done through any official organization, it was simply her reaction to seeing a child in need of care. Heather embraced the role of mother long before she had any children of her own. Caring for the children of others was a passion and specialty of hers. There is a beautiful collection of individuals in the world today who have been forever impacted by Heather’s love and care. Some of these folks are still quite young, some now have children of their own, and others are grandparents. You all know who you are
It should also be said that Heather had a thing for cows, she loved all animals, but especially cows. When you asked her why she loved cows so much she would always respond the same way, “They’re great mothers!”
Heather leaves behind her only child, son Alex, her beloved daughter in-law Jade, and her grandson, the newest pride and joy of her life, her “little bean”, Henry.
