VANDENBERG VILLAGE On Wednesday Cabrillo High School in Vandenberg Village is hosting its first open house of the year for its student-run aquarium.
The free open house at the 6,000-square-foot facility will run from 6 to 8 p.m. The aquarium is located at the front of the high school, 4350 Constellation Road.
Student docents have planned interactive activities about land and marine mammals of the Channel Islands, according to organizers. Visitors can participate in a “fossil dig,” a mammal game and whale origami.
The aquarium’s large jellies lab and its tiny horn shark pups will be on display. Student docents will also talk about the aquarium’s renovation effort to create an Interactive Tidepool project.
The Cabrillo Aquarium features more than 20 live and static displays, maintained and hosted by Cabrillo students. It hosts about 7,000 visitors annually, including regular monthly open houses throughout the school year.
