CARPINTERIA Portions of Highway 101 will be closed next week as work continues on the Linden and Casitas Pass widening project.
From 8 p.m. Jan. 22 to 7 a.m. Jan. 23 and 8 p.m. Jan. 23 to 7 a.m. Jan. 24, one southbound highway lane will be closed between Linden and Bailard avenues to allow crews to move safety barriers. One lane will remain open, according to Caltrans officials.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 20, the northbound 101 onramp at Casitas Pass Road will be closed as crews finish staining the slope and safety barrier. The northbound onramp at Linden Avenue will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 20 to Jan. 24 as needed as crews construct the new sound wall. The ramp will not be closed at the same time as the northbound onramp at Casitas Pass Road. The southbound 101 offramp at Linden Avenue remains closed, officials said.
This week, crews will stripe Via Real and reopen the road between Casitas Pass and Vallecito roads. Following this work, Ogan Road will be closed between Linden Avenue and Pacific Village Drive to allow crews to build the new roundabout and roadway improvements. A local street detour is available on State Route 192.
As work continues, crews are trenching to prepare for irrigation lines by the 101 ramps at Casitas Pass Road.
The Highway 101: Carpinteria project will begin construction in April. Pre-construction activities, including vegetation clearing, will begin the week of Jan. 19. Crews will clear vegetation and install bird and bat exclusion netting between Bailard Avenue and the northbound city limits by the salt marsh. The work is being completed in accordance with the Migratory Bird Act.
Motorists can expect alternating lane closures the week of Jan. 26 on the 101 between Bailard Avenue and the salt marsh. Portions of northbound 101 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Jan. 26, with southbound closures scheduled for 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Night closures are planned for northbound lanes from 8p.m. Jan. 27 to 5 a.m. Jan. 31, with southbound closures from 8 p.m. 27 to 7 a.m. Jan. 31. One lane will remain open in each direction.
