SANTA BARBARA Actor Jeff Bridges joined youth musicians from the Rockshop Academy as the free summer meal concert series continued Thursday afternoon at Bohnett Park.
The program is put on by several county partners, including the Santa Barbara Unified School District, the city of Santa Barbara, Foodbank of Santa Barbara County and the Community Action Commission. The goal of the concert series is to increase participation in the program, which offers any child 18 under a free meal at 52 places throughout the county during the summer, according to a news release.
Mr. Bridges, who is a national spokesman for the group “No Kid Hungry,” was the inspiration for the concert series that launched in 2013.
“Summer is the hardest time for kids in need, when school is out, and their main source of meals is gone,” Mr. Bridges said in a statement. “Community organizations have joined forces to make sure the children of Santa Barbara County have the nutritious food they need. These great young musicians are doing their part to help all kids have a healthy, happy summer.”

Another concert will be held from noon to 1 p.m. July 25 at the cafeteria of Franklin Elementary School, 1111 E. Mason St., in Santa Barbara. That concert will include a performance by youth rock band Jumpstart!
