Passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the age of 78 at Serenity House in Santa Barbara. Ken was born and raised in Colonia New Jersey. In 1972 he along with a partner founded New York City based Kristenson’s Petroleum Inc., an oil brokerage firm specializing in fueling ships around the world.
He and his wife Carol retired to Santa Ynez in 2003 and have been deeply committed to the community from the beginning. Ken was past President and a passionate advocate for the Elverhoj Museum of History and Art, and enjoyed memberships in the Solvang Rotary, Vikings of Solvang, The Men’s Quarterly as well as serving as President of the Woodstock Home Owners Association.
Ken is survived by Carol, his wife of 39 years; daughter and son-in-law Kristen and Jonathan Lewis of Brick, New Jersey; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Jon Kopf of Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey; daughter and son-in-law Linnea and Gary Teetsel of Newtown, Connecticut, son and daughter-in-law Peter and Jill Johnson of Weehawken, New Jersey. Grandchildren include Jamie and Jennifer Lewis, Lauren and Julia Kopf and Ashleigh and Erika Teetsel. In addition, Ken is survived by his sister Elizabeth Murray and husband Don of Goleta, CA.
Services will be held at the Bethania Lutheran Church in Solvang, Ca. on Friday March 15 at 1:00 PM. The family request that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Elverhoj Museum of Art and History, P.O. Box 769, Solvang, California 93464 or to the organization of each person’s individual choice.
