Those who happen to be out for a stroll on the evening of September 5 near the bend where Anapamu St. turns into Milpas St. may hear a soaring, operatic voice emanating from up the hill at the Santa Barbara Bowl. It’ll only be adult contemporary superstar Josh Groban, who is stopping by Santa Barbara for the penultimate show of his summer 2019 Bridges Tour.
The tour is named after his eighth LP “Bridges,” which was released last year and features duets with artists like Andrea Bocelli, Sarah McLachlan, and Jennifer Nettles. It also contains nine tracks co-written by Mr. Groban himself, according to his website’s bio. Mr. Groban’s career as a recording artist began in 2001, when he released his eponymous debut record that went five times platinum. He followed this up with the multi-platinum albums “Closer” in 2003, “Awake” in 2006, and the Christmas album “Noel” in 2007, which was nominated for a Grammy award.
Throughout the current decade Mr. Groban released the gold-certified records “Illuminations” in 2010 and “All That Echoes” in 2013, and “Stages” in 2015. “All That Echoes” gave the singer his first number 1 debut on the Billboard Top 200 chart and his third chart-topper overall. Two years ago, Mr. Groban concluded a run acting in the Broadway musical theater show “Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812,” and even released a coffee table book about his time on Broadway called “Stage to Stage: My Journey to Broadway” in 2017
The singer has also acted in film and television, appearing in movies like “Crazy, Stupid, Love,” “Coffee Town,” and “Muppets Most Wanted” and shows like “The Office” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” In 2018, he co-starred with Tony Danza in the Netflix series “The Good Cop.”Tickets for Mr. Groban’s Sepbember 5 performance can be purchased at the venue’s website www.sbbowl.com.
