Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Arthur J. Karle (Artie) left us peacefully on January 1, 2014 after a long illness, having spent his last days surrounded by family and close friends. Born May 12, 1936 in Manhattan to Arthur and Wanda Karle, he studied to become an electrical engineer and in 1970, moved to California with his wife and children.
Artie was committed to his career for more than 22 years, managing such projects as the F-14 Tomcat weapons system development program and AN/ALQ – 131. When not working, he enjoyed puttering around the garden and listening to his favorite jazz vocalists. But, Artie will be remembered most for his sense of humor, devotion to his wife, and deep compassion and love for his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Andrea; his children, Steven and wife Tanya, Dennis and wife Brigit, Laurie and husband Grant; his grandchildren, Alysha, Rachel, Matthew, A.J., Michelle, Hannah, Jared, Sara, Ryan, Lindsay, Julia, and Noah; and his family on the East Coast, Janet Pearcy, his sister, and his nieces and nephews.
Although Artie leaves us with many beautiful, poignant, and funny stories to keep him alive in our hearts, he will be truly missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 11 at 2:00pm at El Camino Presbyterian Church, 7526 Calle Real, Goleta. If you would like to remember Artie, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care or a charity of your choice.
