1933-2013
Mary Alice McClelland was born to Albert and Lucille McClelland in the spring of 1933 in Newton, MA. Mary happily spent much of her childhood at the family farm in Bloomfield, IN, attended Stephens College and then after earning her Masters of Arts Degree served as Assistant Dean of Women at Iowa State University.
In1957 she met the love of her life, Richard Knudtson. In1958 they relocated to the Los Angeles area and were married. In 1963 they moved to Santa Barbara where Mary remained a devoted and loving lifelong wife to Richard and mother to their two sons.
Mary worked for a time in real estate sales and was a canny business lady with a long term outlook and an honest and steady hand through good times and bad. Till the very end Mary was exceptionally intelligent, possessed a near-photographic memory and never forgot a face or a fact.
Mary passed on January 7, 2013 in Santa Barbara, California after a long battle with cancer. She leaves behind her beloved husband Richard, sons Jeffrey and Gregory, two granddaughters Michelle and Nicole, and two great grandsons Nicholas and Andrew. She will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers the family requests remembrances be directed to Serenity House, The Cancer Center of Santa Barbara, or the Humane Society since Mary loved animals.
