When I saw our mayor, Cathy Murillo, bullying one of our City Council representatives during the city budget hearing in June, I thought: If she publicly shows this much contempt and disrespect for an elected colleague, what must she think of her constituents when they have differing opinions?
Does anyone else get the feeling that our mayor, our Assembly member (Monique Limon) and our state senator (Hannah-Beth Jackson) are just toeing the party line instead of advancing the interests of their constituents?
It brings to mind a famous quote from one of our country’s founding fathers, James Madison: “I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power, than by violent and sudden usurpations.”
It looked like Ms. Murillo gave us a peek at a “silent encroachment” turned “sudden usurpation.”
