SANTA BARBARA The Santa Barbara Public Library has selected “Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe,” by Benjamin Alire S enz, for its 19th annual fall Santa Barbara Reads program.
The program will cover such themes as racial and sexual identities, family relationships, and mental health issues, and will host poetry workshops and book discussions, according to a news release.
“Santa Barbara Reads is about bringing the community together to celebrate reading,” Jessica Cadiente, director of the Santa Barbara Public Library, said in the news release. “Choosing Ari and Dante gives us the opportunity to engage the community in conversations about issues that are important to them.”
The program is sponsored by the Santa Barbara Public Library Foundation and will offer thousands of free copies of the book in both Spanish and English.The program will run from Oct. 15 to Nov. 15 and will feature the author, who will visit Santa Barbara in the first week of November, according to the news release.
