December 24, 1936 – February 28, 2013
Patty was born on Christmas Eve, 1936, in Glendale, California, to Virginia and Dorsey Kammerer. She is the oldest of four children. She was a fourth generation native of California. In her youth she attended St Charles Borromeo School in North Hollywood. She was known to sing the school alma mater heartily when driving by on the 134 freeway. She attended Van Nuys High School, graduating in 1954. She moved to Antelope Valley, California with her family later that year.
While attending Antelope Valley College, she met the love of her life, John Lizarraga. At the time, she was a song leader, while John was the assistant coach of the football team. They were married in August of 1955, and celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary last summer.
Patty and John have three children. Their first child, Janet, was born in Lancaster, California. They moved to Lompoc in 1958, where their two other children, John Jr., and Jennifer were born.
Patty was an active member at La Purisima Church, where all three children attended school. She was also active in American Field Service, the Democratic Club, Good Samaritan Recovery, The Santa Barbara Foundation, and in Charlotte’s Web Library. Her greatest pleasure was helping others and participating in her children’s and grandchildren’s activities.
She died at home, peacefully, well-loved and surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
She is survived by her husband, John, her daughter, Janet, her son, John (Gayle), and her daughter, Jennifer (John). She has six grandchildren, Katelyn, Cameron, Rawley, Royce, Camille and Skylar. She is also survived by her siblings, Mike Kammerer (Lois), Jackie Kammerer, Jill Erne and their children, Jason Owens (Joni), Annie McCullough (Matt), Lindsay Miller (Matt), Jeff and Julie Kammerer, Sarah Kelly (Nathan), and their children, Jenna, Grace, Max, Addie, Reilly, Ruby and Gwenyth.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lompoc High School, Cabrillo High School or any youth organization in the Lompoc Valley.
At Patty’s request, her memorial will be limited to family only.
