
The Bishop Diego boys soccer team made a statement out of the gate on Monday afternoon, walloping Orcutt Academy, 10-0, in their season opener.
Adam Luckhurst scored six goals, while Michael Luckhurst added two, with Austin Carty and Luke Williams each netting one.
“I was very happy to see freshman Ozby Villegas dominating the left sideline,” Bishop coach Mick Luckhurst said. “And it is great to get off to a winning start. It was finally time for our squad to work on what we have focused on doing going into the season. We know that this season will be more challenging than ever and the team has set a goal to do everything they can to rise to the challenge.”
The Cardinals will face an immediate challenge, traveling to Ventura to take on St. Bonaventure at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Lizzie Goss scored on a free kick from 25 yards out in the second half, giving the Dons the victory on the road.
ST. BONAVENTURE 2, CARPINTERIA 0
The Warriors dropped to 2-2 on the season, as the Seraphs kept Carpinteria out of rhythm during the non-league loss.
St. Bonaventure scored late in the first half for the only goal it would need.
The Warriors play Rio Mesa today.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
UCSB HEADS TO BAKERSFIELD
The UCSB men’s basketball team will take their three-game winning streak on the road tonight, traveling to Cal State Bakersfield.
The Gauchos will stay on the road with away games at UT-Arlington (Dec. 7), Southern Utah (Dec. 14) and Idaho State (Dec. 16). UCSB’s next home game isn’t until Dec. 20, when Southern University visits the Thunderdome.
Tonight’s game will be the last non-league clash with Bakersfield, as the Roadrunners will join the Big West for the 2020-21 season.
